"She Said...": Celebrating Women in Music
"She Said" is curated and hosted by blues/rock/roots fiddle player & singer-songwriter Anne Harris. In her role as host, Harris brings her unique understanding of music’s transcendent power to bypass all superficial differences, universally uniting us in its mystery and joy to every conversation and performance with special artists like Susan Voelz (Poi Dog Pondering); Cathy Richardson (Jefferson Starship, Cathy Richardson Band); virtuoso blues guitarist Joanna Connor; and Lynne Jordan (Lynne Jordan & The Shivers). This series in funded in part by a grant from the Aurora Women's Empowerment Foundation.
While great progress has been made in the past 40 years, under-representation of women and women of color artists remains a challenge in the music industry. Historically it is still true that it can be difficult for women songwriters to have their music heard and to thrive as solo independent songwriters and performing artists in a still relatively male-dominated business. By presenting a series that recognizes and encourages diversity and inclusion of women artists in live performance, FVMF is fulfilling our mission of promoting and preserving music in the Aurora community while at the same time adhering to the AWEF mission of producing positive change in this area through inclusion and diversity. In addition, presenting such a series creates an undercurrent of empowerment that helps accomplish education within the community.
AWEF envisions a prosperous and vibrant Aurora that fully embraces and supports a reimagined women’s empowerment movement so that women and girls of all ages, races, ethnicities, and income levels feel respected and valued, and are nurtured to achieve their fullest potential.

To help make their vision a reality, AWEF's mission is to elevate and empower Aurora-area women and future women by making grants to tax-exempt nonprofits engaged in meaningful, measurable work that helps women over the hurdles of inequity and exclusion, propelling them forward with life-changing programs and services.
